Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development

Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development (PKED) is the lead regional economic development agency contracted to conduct core economic development and tourism activities on behalf of the City and County of Peterborough. PKED operates Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism – the region’s official Destination Marketing Organization and Visitor Centre, and the Business Advisory Centre – the region’s Small Business Enterprise Centre.

The friendly and knowledgeable team at PKED provides complimentary training, advice and support to assist local businesses to start, grow and diversify. By participating in programs such as Starter Company Plus, businesses receive opportunities to compete for microgrants from PKED and can be fast-tracked for pre-approval for microloans from Community Futures Peterborough.

Peterborough and Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce

The Peterborough and Kawarthas Chamber connects businesses to valuable local resources and opportunities, driving success and growth in the community.

Innovation Cluster Peterborough and the Kawarthas

Innovation Cluster Peterborough and the Kawarthas (ICPK) is focused on supporting entrepreneurs to launch, grow and scale their businesses. They help entrepreneurs reach their business goals so that our local community, job market, and economy continue to grow. The ICPK supports startup businesses by providing entrepreneurs dynamic programming, mentorship, workshops, and networking opportunities through three core programs: Startup Incubator, STARTup Visa Program Canada and Student Entrepreneurship Program.

Unlock your innovative ideas’ potential with the Innovation Cluster’s support. As an Innovation Cluster client, you’ll be pre-approved for a loan up to $20,000, empowering you to scale your business.

Rotary Club of Peterborough and Cleantech Commons

The Rotary Environmentalist Innovators Fund (REIF) was created by a collection of active citizens and businesses – the Environmental Champions group – to support and advance the passion of local Environmental Innovators—environmentalists working on some of the top environmental concerns facing us today and impacting us locally.

REIF Champions participate in selecting three Innovator applications for funding, with $3,000 awarded to each finalist. By participating in the voting process, Champions significantly and immediately impact local environmental leaders’ initiatives in sustainable projects.

Finalists from the REIF are pre-approved for a microloan of up to $20,000 to grow their sustainable business ventures.

Workforce Development Board

Workforce Development Board delivers responsive workforce development solutions to meet local labour market needs through knowledge, resources, and partnerships. Working together with Community Futures Peterborough, the Workforce Development Board informs area business owners and potential business startups about local labour market trends and opportunities, providing valuable insights into the economic indicators supporting the workforce in the region.

Fleming College

Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features over 100 full-time programs in Arts and Heritage, Business, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, General Arts and Sciences, Health and Wellness, Justice and Community Development, Skilled Trades and Technology, and Continuing Education. Fleming College has more than 6,800 full-time and 10,000 part-time students and 75,000 alumni.
